Interactive Decision Making is about more than just hitting the target. It's about identifying whether you should shoot, determining how you can respond effectively, and understanding why your decisions matter—legally, morally, and personally.

Through dynamic scenarios and structured debriefs, you'll develop:

• The ability to assess and articulate threat indicators

The shotgun is a powerful defensive tool—but it demands clarity, control, and consequence-aware decision making. This course brings the principles of Interactive Decision Making to the shotgun platform, using scenarios based on documented real-world civilian defensive encounters.

What You'll Experience: Through photorealistic targets and turning target systems, you'll navigate rapidly evolving situations that mirror actual defensive shootings. There are no tricks or "gotcha" moments—every scenario is designed for maximum learning value. The turning targets add cognitive load and time pressure, forcing you to process visual information quickly while managing your stress response.

Students will face scenarios requiring them to:

• Assess ambiguous threats (partially visible weapons, aggressive movements, multiple subjects)

  1. Control emotional responses under duress

  2. Make and execute shoot/no-shoot decisions

  3. Clearly articulate what happened and why through structured debriefs

This is not a shooting class. It's a thinking class under stress—with a tool that leaves no room for error. You'll leave with a deeper understanding of your capabilities and a clear roadmap for what needs refinement.

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is intended for all individuals, regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. This is the traditional, instructor-led course where students will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end.

Some of the topics in the course include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting, and pistol inspection and maintenance. Small classes ensure low student-to-instructor ratios for lots of individualized attention. The course concludes with a written test and a shooting qualification drill. Our patient instructors will be there to assist students every step of the way in a comfortable, non-intimidating environment.

Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite to attending the NRA Pistol Shooting Instructor Course.

Students will receive instruction from an active duty Police Officer with over a decade of experience in various aspects of Law Enforcement including being a part of multiple teams and task forces, and 8 years as a Defensive Tactics Instructor for local Law Enforcement Agencies.

Students will learn how to effectively and efficiently build up from a prone position to a standing, fighting platform without ever sacrificing lethal coverage. Students will receive instruction from an active duty Police Officer with over a decade of experience in various aspects of Law Enforcement including being a part of multiple teams and task forces, and 8 years as a Defensive Tactics Instructor for local Law Enforcement Agencies.

In Defensive Pistol 2 you will learn best practices for carrying and drawing a pistol. You’ll focus on developing speed, efficiency, and consistency while going over each step of the process accurately and safely. You’ll learn rapid and robust stoppage mitigation techniques and how to shoot effectively with one hand. You’ll be much more competent and confident carrying and if needed, deploying your pistol.

Prerequisite: Defensive Pistol 1

• Quality Kydex holster (one that anchors well to your belt and stays open when the gun is drawn)
